Job Summary:
The Packaging and Senior Digital Graphic Designer at turn is a talented, passionate, and energetic individual with extensive experience in packaging design and digital graphics. This role is critical in creating dynamic, on-brand packaging and marketing materials that engage clients across all retail and promotional platforms. The ideal candidate will work closely with turn’s Founder/Creative Director, as well as with product development, sales, and marketing teams, to bring innovative designs to life. This position requires proficiency in rendering designs into production-ready formats, ensuring that the highest quality is maintained throughout all projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Brand Vision Alignment: Understand the turn brand vision and deliver designs that enhance and push the brand forward.
- Innovation within Core Brand: Propose new ideas, fonts, and layouts that are innovative while staying true to the turn brand identity.
- Digital Marketing Materials: Design and retouch digital marketing assets for product launches and promotions across email, SMS, e-commerce, retail, and social media (both paid and organic).
- Vendor Management: Manage relationships with key vendors for additional creative development.
- Consistent Branding: Drive the execution of product branding, ensuring consistency in product packaging across core products, line extensions, seasonal campaigns, and promotions.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Partner with product development and marketing teams to achieve the highest quality within project constraints such as timing and cost.
- Meeting Participation: Actively participate in meetings, contributing to decision-making processes.
- Digital Illustration: Produce high-quality digital illustrations (raster & vector) for product components and packaging.
- Design Guidelines Management: Strategize, manage, and evolve design guidelines for packaging systems, email, paid social, and digital website assets.
- Packaging Support: Design and maintain a wide array of unit cartons, palette, component designs, promotional marketing merchandise, PR box mailers, and POP displays.
- Retail Visual Merchandising: Work closely with Sales and Marketing teams to develop and implement retailer visual merchandising displays.
- Image Resizing and Formatting: Resize and format product, model, and lifestyle images for retailer partners with each new launch or account.
- E-tailer Storefronts: Support Sales with creating layouts and promotional images for e-tailer storefronts.
- Project Management: Manage multiple projects, remaining flexible through revisions while maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines.
- Industry Awareness: Stay current on industry trends, social sentiment, and competitors.
- File Preparation for Production: Prepare final files for production, collaborating with the production team on specifics such as Pantone matching, proofing, etc.
- Digital Archive Maintenance: Organize and maintain projects and digital archives.
- Trend Research: Research current design trends in the beauty and packaging industries, pushing the team towards creative, out-of-the-box thinking.
- Product Mock-ups: Collaborate with the production team to create mock-ups of products for presentations and reviews.
- Creative Composition Management: Translate approved master creative compositions into various sizes and formats, ensuring the original creative intent is maintained.
- Press Checks and Proof Approval: Attend press checks and approve print proofs for packaging elements.
- Project Flow Management: Manage project profiles, deadlines, and flow through Basecamp.
- PR Box Mailers: Design and produce mechanicals for promotional PR box mailers.
- Digital-First Mindset: Keep abreast of new visual trends and the competitive landscape, particularly in Paid Media and Social Creative, to pull forward best-in-class visual ideas.
- Digital Design Skills: Capable of handling all aspects of digital design, including email and ad design, quick comping, animated GIFs, banner resizing, photo retouching, and delivering polished design solutions.
- Deadline Management: Work efficiently under tight deadlines with excellent attention to detail, being self-motivated and proactive.
- Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in graphic and packaging design.
- Education: B.A. or B.F.A. in Graphic Design.
- Design Environment: Thrive in a fast-paced design environment.
- Package Design Expertise: Strong concentration in package design, including collateral, POP, displays, print advertising, and digital design.
- Multi-tasking: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
- Team Collaboration: Proven ability to work collaboratively with Marketing, Design, and Product Development teams.
- Organizational Skills: Extremely organized with meticulous attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a problem-solving mindset.
- Industry Knowledge: Resourceful with a deep understanding of beauty/fashion retail market trends and packaging trends/technology.
- Time Management: Excellent time management skills.
- Rendering Skills: Deep experience with mock-ups and digital renderings.
- Software Proficiency: Extensive knowledge of design software, including Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro).
- Video Editing: Experience with at least light video editing is preferred.
